Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports that as Phyllis was lunching with granddaughter Alexis in Westfield, the keeper did a patrol of nostalgia around the area that for 40 plus years starting in 1961 was where he most wanted to be.

The A-frame cabin he and friends built along Caves Creek has become an Airbnb and was occupied by Jerry Warton and his family from Sioux Falls who did not know of the brook trout down in the creek.

Bonnie and Jack Lawton and grandkids were weekending over at the nearby Haunted House and it was a delight to share memories with them.

So then the keeper retreated from the hot emotion-laden day to The End Zone tavern in Westfield for cold beer and therapeutic counseling from the owner Bill who knew of some of the old timers the keeper asked about, like Murphy at the corner tavern where the keeper’s dog “Doc” was always welcomed, and the grocery store brothers who raised trotting horses and…..

“Those were the days, my friend, we thought they’d never end……”
