Kickass, the doorstop dog, is not much help to the keeper as he—the keeper, is increasingly beset with quirky attempts to remain relevant.
So the keeper has this windmill on the balcony at Vista West where he and Phyllis reside. It is a totally useless thing in that it does not pump anything. It simply turns its head into the wind and its green blades whirl and spin as if it were producing water for the cows or maybe even oil for the keeper.
The keeper finds great pleasure in watching the useless windmill, and it occurred to him that when he is not watching it, say while he is sleeping, it is still whirling and thus wearing away at its life expectancy.
In what he considers a stroke of genius, the keeper enlisted a bungy cord to serve as means of turning off the windmill for the times when he cannot see it.
It has added a dimension to his life, a new responsibility in that he can now announce to Phyllis as they head for slumberland that he has “turned the windmill off.”
Sometimes he wonders how much Phyllis cares about the turned off windmill and if she might be more interested in turning him off so she could go to sleep?
Life in the fast lane–with a windmill!
