Kickass, the doorstop dog, joins the keeper in honoring all mothers on this official day of doing so, and remembers when Mother’s Day and the opening of Wisconsin’s trout fishing season occurred on the same day and it was a simple matter of doing something nice for mother by taking her out trout fishing, whether she wanted to go or not.
For some of that time the keeper was an official outdoor writer and so had no choice but to go fishing on Mother’s Day, always, it turned out, without his mother, who would have willingly gone with him if he had asked.
In fact, Mom would have seen to the bait and tackle, made sure the keeper was dressed warm and packed a great lunch. She was that kind of mother.
So is Phyllis. So are all of the magnificent mothers.
Happy Mother’s Day to all of you and remember to look at the beautiful Marsh Marigolds over on the trout creek’s mud bar.
