Kickass, the doorstop dog, joined the keeper in watching a worker load up the boom-lift that has been parked in front of Vista West for a month or so as part of a siding repair job. The worker’s diligence in securing the ungainly machine to the special trailer was a lesson the keeper and some of his associates should have learned before son Mike’s pontoon boat went skidding down Highway Y on the way to the river, or friend Art Jensen’s newly constructed outhouse caught fire after it blew off Art’s trailer and went sliding down highway 30 as he hauled it to his weekend cabin.
The keeper enters the competition of the inadequately secured with the metal canoe that blew off the top of his vehicle on the Sanibel Island causeway, and another time when the big suitcase full of all his kid’s clothes disappeared from a cartop carrier on the way home from vacation.
The keeper only transports Phyllis these days and he is careful to see that she is securely tied down with her seatbelt before a wheel turns.
