The holiday season is all about family tradition. Whether it’s about going to Midnight Mass, carving the Christmas ham, avoiding the mother-in-law’s homemade eggnog, or sampling Grandma’s oyster stew, traditions are what makes our holidays special.
So, in an alternative–but inclusive–recognition of the holiday, The Pen in Hand would like to present some unconventional Christmas moments—snippets of film, TV, and audio—that celebrate the non-traditional, unusual, and exuberant holiday observances.
Deck the Halls: The Babs and Knuckles Christmas Special
The ever-glamorous Babs teaches her larcenous boyfriend Knuckles the true meaning of Christmas in Michael DiMilo’s animated masterpiece. Knuckles thinks that decorating for the holidays is too much of a bother (and too expensive!!) until Babs persuades him to pry open his wallet and deck the halls, transforming his grungy bachelor pad into a real home.
