Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports that the keeper is out there on his stand this opening-morning of the traditional Wisconsin deer hunt, and if it is symbolic only it is no less of an emotional trip.
The opportunity to be alone with your thoughts in a wild natural setting while anticipating the possibility of killing a large animal is a rare occurrence, and if it has happened for you year after year the memories stack up like the goodies in an old general store.
The faded images of dear old friends and family members stand hauntingly back on the edges of the trees. Moments too precious to ever evaporate rise like stars into a crowded sky. And the keeper is back there in the middle of it all.
It was so important, so time dominant, so wonderful!
The rat hole of time may have claimed opening-morning reality for old rats like the keeper, but they were out there this morning with the rest of the mob, and it was great!
