Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports on the scene in the exercise room at Vista West: Dorothy at 90 on one stationary bike, the keeper at older- than-that, on another, Phyllis only in her early 80’s, on the treadmill. They pedal and pump and pace, and if you were to interrupt the non-stop conversation to ask the three of them where they think they are going on the fancy stationary machines, they might tell you their destination is simply to be on hand for tomorrow.
That being the only exercise goal that makes sense, Dorothy and the keeper and Phyllis stayed at their respective machines until they had burned off enough calories to balance out those they then gained in the drink they had in toasting “tomorrow.”
