Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports that the keeper will be complying with the rule allowing only hummingbird feeders out on his balcony by watching the little hummers adjust to eating sunflower seeds and cracked corn.
The necessity of cooperation in tiered living arrangements is important, but a bird feeder falls into the category of an essential mental health therapy device for the keeper and though his current 5th floor feeder attracts mostly sparrows and starlings, he is comfortable in their company and dreams of a visit one day by a migrating oriole.
In the meantime, he will try to put Phyllis’s mind at ease by preventing bird food from sprinkling down on the lower-tiered neighbors who may not understand the importance of altering the diets of hummingbirds.
