Kickass, the doorstop dog, has engaged the keeper in defending the verity that dogs witness people doing far more dumb things than the other way around, which made the dumb-dog incident at a recent river-side family gathering at Mike’s particularly noteworthy.
As food, drink and frivolity were consumed in great quantities by the people, a dog named Boon who lives with Steve and Lindsey, paced the shore and watched cruising ducks until he could no longer stand it, whereupon he dove into the river, trailing a leash, and began a ridiculous pursuit of the ducks. The ducks were, of course, indifferent unto amused by this odd creature coming slowly in their direction.
Boon ignored all commands and pleas to give up his hopeless cause and return to shore, and gradually paddled himself farther out into the river, his head seemingly sinking lower as time went on, and the concerned crowd of observes grew.
Finally, Mike fired up his pontoon boat and he and Steve went out and hauled Boon back to shore. Boon appeared to be disappointed and went back to pacing and staring at the ducks.
Kickass, being a cast iron dog with no swimming ability, compares Boon’s dumb-dog duck pursuit to the keeper and his crowd swimming hopelessly in the political river thinking that they are going to catch the narcissistic money ducks.
