Kickass and Price of Gas

Kickass, the doorstop dog, failed in his attempt to prevent the keeper from participating in April-as-poetry-month, and he apologizes for that.

                  THE PRICE OF GAS

On stopping at the gas pumps

         In the company of grumps,

         Carrying a bucket of money,

For a drive with his honey.

But the per gallon price was so high,

It caused the keeper to tell Phyllis a lie:

“We’re staying home, my bonny lass!

“And Exxon Mobil can kiss my ass!”

But as so often turns out to be the case,

The keeper’s conviction had no base:

He pumped his gas tank full to the top.

Then drove to New Glarus for a coffee stop.

Phyllis bought bread and Swiss cookies,

And they headed out like travel rookies.

The price of gas won’t keep them home,

They may be old, but not too old to roam.
