Kickass, the doorstop dog, indulges the keeper as he—the keeper remembers a February when he was waist-deep in a Florida river in the middle of the night to exercise his perverse passion of night-time fly fishing; and a woman’s voice shouted from the darkened riverbank, “There’s gators out there!”
Now, many years later, as he wades through yet another wintery February, the keeper sorely misses the Florida “gators.” His vintage crowd understands; and obviously would remind him that the important thing is to keep wading; and be aware that even in the deep snows of a Wisconsin winter: “There’s gators out there!”
