Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports that the keeper tries not to be intimidated by the numbers that relate to age, but like legions of others, embraced a Betty White quotation released after her recent death at the age of 99—just days short of 100.
“Best thing about being in your 90’s is that you are spoiled rotten. Everybody spoils you like mad, and they treat you with such respect because you are old. Little do they know, you haven’t changed in the brain: You are just 90 every place else. Now that I’m 91 as opposed to being 90, I’m much wiser. I’m much more aware and I’m much sexier.”
That thought is enough to change the keeper’s anticipation of upcoming birthdays from alarm to acceptance; and it helps that Phyllis—his much younger wife, has many of the good Betty White qualities that may even extend to her—Phyllis, tolerating that self-assessment the keeper will share later this year with 91-year-old Betty of being “sexier” at 91.
Bring it on!
