Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports on the keeper’s “If you build it they will come” experience in the thick tangle of asters and cattails beside Vermont Creek when he stood in the bright sunshine and imagined old departed trout friends lurking back on the edges of the magnificent autumnal extravaganza, flyrods at the ready and waders showing patches.
“You’re early,” they said, and then faded away with knowing grins and guffaws.
