Kickass, the doorstop dog, is trying to boost the keeper’s spirits after he—the keeper got the news that an accordion player was shot in the back at a Louisiana music festival last week. The bullet lodged in the zydeco musician’s ribs and did not kill him.
As a very amateur accordion player with a fan base of one—Phyllis, the keeper has forever been mystified at the rejection of the accordion by the snobbish music crowd; but he did not think it would ever reach the point where accordion players would be shot. However, when the American way of using guns to resolve issues is considered, it is not all that surprising.
Even if the practice of shooting accordion players becomes commonplace, the keeper feels relatively safe given that he plays only for Phyllis, and she does not have a gun, at least not that he knows of.
